Langley Legion History
Branch #21 received its charter in May 29 1927 the first president was Dr.B Marr and he was the principle organizer of cenotaphs in Murrayville and fort Langley cemeteries believed to be first built in Canada .
The branch had no building at the time and had there meetings in schools and local halls in fort Langley. In 1947 Armstrong Bros. were awarded a contract to build the legion that is at 20702 Eastleigh crest. as branch members finished their day time work they came to the site to assist with the construction, to what we have today.
We have an honour roll bearing the names from the Langley area that served in WW1 & WW2 we have had 38 presidents today is William Kerton, we have about 1200 members today. As today is our 80th anniversary of all Legions. I wish to say thanks to all.
Branch 21 President's Report
It’s 2010 and I have the honour to be re-elected as president of branch 21 along with our new executives.
We have our year cut out for us with many challenges to address to move into our new building with a new look and fresh start, we start the renovation the end of march. We need your support even more to keep things going for our events as the branch will be staying open right up to the day we move barring any unforseen circumstances. I ask for all of our members to help and support us to help make this transition as smooth as possible.
We need new kitchen equipment in the new building. Due to cost overruns in complying to new code requirements and the building has to be earthquake proof, the cost of the renovation will exceed our $350,000.00 budget.
The branch has a new sargeant of arms and his name is Matthew Lebleu.
Our executive need your total support throughout this year. Come and see what is going on and bring your friends.
If you have any questions, please contact me through the office.
Yours sincerely
Branch 21 President
Bill Kerton
Ladies Auxiliary President's Report
As we start this year of 2009, the Ladies Auxiliary are hoping for good things for R.C.L. Branch #21.
As President of the L.A. for 2008, I have been re-elected by the members once again.
Last year the L.A. were able to donate a sizeable amount of monies to worthy charities within our community. Also, at this time I must make mention, that the L.A. donated to the R.C.L. Branch #21, the amount of $7,000.00
In 2009, the L.A. will be working tirelessly in fundraising, so we can continue to make charitable donations once again to those in need, to meet the challenges of today's society. We have many interesting and fun filled events planned. I do hope that all you Branch members, along with your family and friends, will come out and support us.
Our L.A. will be working very hard to assist our Branch in any way possible. May it be through assisting our Veterans, the Poppy drive, or anything else they may ask of the Ladies Auxiliary. But, most of all we will endeavour to help them out financially.
The L.A. of R.C.L. Branch #21, welcome new members who share in the joy of serving Veterans and our Community. So, come and check us out on the 1st Monday of every month @ 1 p.m.
Remember this: TEAMWORK is the ability to work together toward a common goal or vision....together we can go further than if we were apart!.....The secret to success is to work less as individuals and more as a team.
In Comradship,
Ladies Auxilary President
Suzanne L. Simpson
